Just before 12 p.m. on May 9, the Florida Department of Health released the latest COVID-19 case count.
Case counts jumped to 89, after results from Crystal Health nursing home started coming back. Eight residents and one employee have tested positive. This comes after an employee had a positive test last week. The Florida Health Department is still waiting on tests results from a private lab on tests conducted on May 2 by a state strike team. A total of 150 residents and employees were tested.
In broader Monroe County, including these latest nine tests, investigations have uncovered 21 are travel-related and 60 are community-spread cases. Eight cases are still currently under investigation. 41 are male, 40 are female and data on the remaining cases is still missing. There have been 11 hospitalizations (nine residents and two non-resident) and three deaths.
81 are residents and eight are non-residents. 39 are in Key West, 17 in Key Largo, five in Marathon, four in Tavernier, two in each of Islamorada and Summerland Key, and one in each of Key Colony Beach, Sugarloaf and Cudjoe Key. Nine are missing a city.
The youngest person in the county to test positive is a 6-year-old child. Prior, the youngest person was 10-years old. The age range is six to 88, with a median age of 52.
