BTT fisheries talk at Keys History & Discovery Center Wed. Jan 22

Restoring the Keys Flats Fishery

Dr. Ross Boucek is the Florida Keys Initiative Manager at Bonefish & Tarpon Trust (BTT). He will present at the Keys History & Discovery Center next week on how to restore the Keys Flats Fishery.

The challenges and opportunities that lie in the Keys’ unique fisheries and ecosystem require tailored and informed management choices. BTT aims to protect and enhance critical flats habitats, reverse the decline of flats species, and use research findings to influence policy, educate the fishing community and improve resource management for long-term stewardship.

Dr. Boucek will discuss all of this as he outlines the many projects and initiatives BTT has created. They’ve enjoyed significant positive results in the efforts to learn about, protect and restore bonefish, tarpon and permit fisheries and habitats. He also will discuss the economic significance of the Keys’ flats fishery.

The presentation will take place at the Keys History & Discovery Center at the Islander Resort in Islamorada on Wed., Jan. 22. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation begins at 6. p.m. Cost: Members, free; $10 for non-members. Reservation s are recommended: 305-922-2237 or visit www.keysdiscovery.com for more information and membership requirements.
