Candidate forum set for July 22 will feature county commission, school board & mosquito control races

Candidates in critical Florida Keys races will have another chance to make their case to voters at a candidate forum on Wednesday, July 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marathon Government Center BOCC room.

Co-hosted annually by the Keys Weekly Newspapers and Greater Marathon Chamber of Commerce, this year’s iteration is set before the 2026 Florida state primary election on Aug. 18, which is open to all registered voters for nonpartisan races and others without a Democratic challenger.

The July 22 forum will feature four races: Monroe County Board of County Commissioners, District 2 (Michelle Lincoln vs. George Lopez, open primary), Monroe County School Board Districts 1 and 5 (Darren Horan vs. Teri Axford and Sue Woltanski vs. Chelyn Shaw), and the Florida Keys Mosquito Control Board District 2 (Phil Goodman vs. Alex Osborne).

The candidate forum is open to the public to attend in person, and will be broadcast on Monroe County TV, available as a live stream or on Comcast channel 76, AT&T Uverse channel 99, Hotwire Fision TV and Amazon Fire TV.
