A state strike team entered the Crystal Health & Rehab Center on Plantation Key last Saturday to conduct tests on 150 employees and residents inside the facility after a speech therapist tested positive for COVID-19 late last week

Testing is complete, and a few results have come back. The rest are expected later this week.

Specifically, two test results came back on a 101-year-old female and an 87-year-old female, who both passed away at the facility late last week. Per Bob Eadie, health officer for Monroe County, those tests came back negative for COVID-19.

Eadie says he’s been in contact with Tallahassee to see when exactly the rest of the test results are expected back. The state’s Incident Management Team conducted the testing of employees and workers at the facility. Any actions that need to be taken at the facility are continuing, he said.

“The primary goal is to make sure all of the clients and residents in the facility are protected and their health is being monitored, and the same with the staff,” he said.
