A Delray Beach couple are facing charges after deputies said they two left their young children alone in a Key Largo hotel room while they were at the pool.
On July 4, the sheriff’s office responded to the Reefhouse Resort & Marina at approximately 1:45 p.m. after employees reported they had to enter a room due to an unattended baby crying. There were two young children alone in the room in nursery beds/cribs.
Staff stated they eventually found the suspects, 43-year old Brian Cannella and 40-year-old Allison Cannella, at the pool drinking alcoholic beverages.
Security footage, witness statements, and other elements of the investigation revealed the suspects left the juveniles alone for approximately 40 minutes to an hour.
The suspects were taken to jail. The Department of Children and Family Services was notified. The children were transferred to the custody of a family friend until DCF arrived.
Both are facing charges of child neglect.
