Well, Dolly, we poured ourselves a cup of ambition and heard you loud and clear. And there’s no better place to do it than Dive Bar, 320 Grinnell St.
On Friday, Sept. 25 (9-2-5 — get it?), Dive Bar will host the first-ever (and hopefully annual) DollyFest Key West Look-A-Like Contest. Do your best Dolly. Big hair. Big rhinestones. Big, well, everything. If Dolly would approve, you’re doing it right.
Hosted by Q-Mitch, proceeds from DollyFest will benefit the nonprofit Friends of the Key West Library, as Dolly was not only a musical legend, but also a fervent champion of books and literacy.
Sponsored by Keys Weekly and Coco’s Monkey, here’s how the Dolly Look-Alike contest works:
- Sign up by Friday, Sept. 25. There are only 20 spots, and no one wants to be all dressed like Dolly with nowhere to go.
- Check in at 6 p.m. at Dive Bar on Sept. 25 and pay the $20 entry fee. Contest starts at 7 p.m.
- Come dressed as your best Dolly,
- Strut the catwalk to whatever song your inner Dolly demands. A panel of judges will decide your fate. A lucky winner will walk away with a $500 prize and a lifetime’s worth of bragging rights. Second- and third-place prizes will also be awarded.
