Marathon’s ace on the mound will have a new home next year, as senior hurler Dylan Ziels this week announced his commitment to play for the Palm Beach State College Panthers on an athletic scholarship.

A multi-year varsity starter for the Fins, Ziels topped state and national strikeout leaderboards during the 2023 spring season, at one point claiming the top national ranking for strikeouts (90) among anyone with less than 40 innings pitched.

“Big things are ahead for Dylan,” wrote Marathon coach Joey Gonzalez in a social media post. “He believed and put in the work day in and day out, and the end result (is) an athletic scholarship to live out his childhood dream. To say I’m proud of him is an understatement.”

The Dolphins plan to hold a signing ceremony on Friday, Feb. 22 at 5:15 p.m. before the team’s home rivalry game against Miami Country Day.
