The Fantasy Fest Royal Campaign has returned with a vengeance after a two-year COVID hiatus. The eight-week fundraising campaign kicked off Aug. 26 at Ocean Key Resort’s Sunset Pier and will determine which of the four contestants will be crowned King and Queen of Fantasy Fest 2022.
This year’s candidates include Fran Decker, DJ Sanaris, Vicky Shields and Carlos Home. (Sanaris and Home are two of Keys Weekly’s 2022 Bubbas: Key West People’s Choice Awards winners. Sanaris was voted Best DJ and Home was voted Best Bartender by his supporters at 22&Co.)
The kickoff event featured outlandish introductions and performances by each candidate as well as appearances by former kings, queens, dukes and duchesses.
This will be the last year that the Royal Campaign benefits AH Monroe, but the tradition of Fantasy Fest royalty and annual coronations will continue. AH Monroe officials have said they couldn’t be more grateful for more than two decades of community support, and decided it was time to pass the torch to another deserving nonprofit. Hence, the theme of this year’s campaign is “Thanks for the Memories.”
