Verity Pond and Ashley Pond, both from Somerset Island Prep in Key West, placed first and third respectively in the regional finals of the Financial Fitness Tournament by Keys Federal Credit Union and the League of Southeastern Credit Unions.
Keys Federal Credit Union organized and sponsored the local qualifying rounds, but due to Covid-19 the format at the state and regional level had to be reconfigured. All nine Keys winners from the three area tournaments were invited to compete, solo, in a regional online event against students from Florida, Georgia and Alabama.
Verity and Ashley were both part of an original team whose tournament entry was sponsored by The Weekly Newspapers. In addition to the $500 they each won for being the Lower Keys Champions, Verity wins an additional $1,000 and Ashley, an additional, $300.
