Hawks Cay Resort will honor active military members, veterans and first responders with a weekend of running, music and family-friendly festivities during its Heroes Salute celebration on Sept. 4 and 5.
The weekend gets underway Friday, Sept. 4 from 5 to 9 p.m., with First Friday on the Promenade at Hawks Cay Marina featuring live music, local vendors, food and drinks.
Friday will also offer registration and packet pickup from 5 to 7 p.m. on the marina lawn for the Heroes Salute 5K. Limited to 200 participants, the race honoring active military, veterans and first responders invites runners to sport their best themed gear for a chance to win on-the-spot prizes.
Race-day registration and packet pickup will continue Saturday, Sept. 5 from 6 to 6:50 a.m. in the Angler & Ale parking lot before the 5K starts at 7 a.m.
Following the race, families can check out a Touch-a-Truck event from 8 to 10 a.m., giving kids an up-close look at vehicles and equipment used by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The celebration returns Saturday evening on the Oasis Cay Lawn for the Heroes Salute Tribute & Party, honoring the active military members, veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS personnel who protect our communities.
The Coast Guard color guard will enter at 6:50 p.m., followed by the national anthem and a flyover at 7 p.m. The Heroes Salute Tribute runs from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by the Gabriel Key Band and a party on the lawn from 8 to 10 p.m. Fireworks will cap the night at 10 p.m.
