KEY WEST MAN WINS $1M PRIZE FROM FLORIDA LOTTERY SCRATCH-OFF TICKET

A Florida Keys man won a $1 million prize off this Florida Lottery scratch-off ticket.

A Key West man won a $1 million prize on a $50 scratch-off ticket he bought at an Old Town corner store, the Florida Lottery announced Dec. 15.

Qiriako Kaci, 57, claimed his winnings at the Lottery’s Miami District Office, choosing to take a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.

Kaci bought the winning scratch-off from the corner store at 900 Caroline St. in Key West, the Florida Lottery said in a press release.

New Market, the corner store across from the Key West Historic Seaport and next door to Harpoon Harry’s, will receive a $2,000 “bonus commission” for selling the ticket.

The $50 scratch-off game is called “$1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular.” It was launched in February and advertises two top prizes of $1 million a year for life, along with 234 prizes of $1 million.

The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.50, according to the Florida Lottery.

Florida’s scratch-off games made up about 72 percent of ticket sales for the fiscal year 2022-2023.

“Additionally, since inception, scratch-off games have awarded more than $59.5 billion in prizes, created 1,947 millionaires, and generated more than $18.39 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund,” the release said.
