Incumbents running in key countywide primary races secured victories, per the unofficial results posted Tuesday night by the Supervisor of Elections. All 33 precincts reported their results by 10:32 p.m. Vote-by-mail ballots were completely reported, as were early votes.
Monroe County Commission
Republican incumbent Michelle Lincoln fended off a challenge from candidate Jorge “George” Ignacio-Lopez to retake the Monroe County Commission District 2 seat. Lincoln secured 59.67% of the vote. The seat represents residents from Boca Chica through 7 Mile Bridge, including the north side of U.S. 1 to behind the airport in Marathon.
Lincoln was first elected in 2018 to the Monroe County Commission for District 2. Before being elected to the BOCC, she served on the Marathon City Council for three years and was Marathon’s mayor for one year.
Lincoln will serve a four-year term on the commission.
Monroe County School Board
Incumbent Darren Horan came away with the victory over former schools superintendent Theresa Axford for the District 1 seat. Horan secured 51.39% of the vote.
Incumbent Dr. Sue Woltanski will return to the school board following her victory over challenger Chelyn Shaw in the race for the District 5 seat. Woltanski secured 64.05% of the vote. She was first elected to the school board in 2018.
Both Horan and Woltanski will serve four-year terms on the school board.
Florida Keys Mosquito Control
Incumbent and current chairman Phil Goodman will return to serve on the mosquito control board in the District 2 seat. Goodman beat challenger Alex Osborn, securing 62.46% of the vote.
Phil Goodman was first appointed to the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District Board of Commissioners, District 2, in 2011 by then-Gov. Rick Scott. He was re-elected to this position in 2014, 2018 and 2022. He has served as board chairman since 2016.
County Court Judge
Kevin McCarthy secured the victory over David Van Loon with 65.48% of the vote.
Key West Commission
Key West’s contentious election ended with Sam Kaufman defeating incumbent Mayor Danise “Dee Dee” Henriquez with 58% of the vote compared to Henriquez’s 42%
In the three city commission races, Mark Rossi defeated Bobi Lore 55% to 45%.
Chris Massicotte defeats Greg Sullivan with 57% to Sullivan’s 43%.
In District IV, Sarah Compton & Wayne Garcia are headed to a November runoff.
Compton secured 42%. Garcia got 34% and Juan Llera got 24%. The top two vote getters proceed to a runoff.
Florida Governor
Republican Byron Donalds will square off against Democrat David Jolly in the November general election, following their primary victories.
Florida Senate
Republican incumbent Ashley Moody will face Democrat Angie Nixon in November.
