Florida Keys Electric Cooperative said Monday afternoon that three line workers were transported to the hospital after they were shocked while working on an underground electrical feed on Plantation Key in Islamorada.
The three workers sustained varying degrees of shock, but FKEC said no serious injuries were sustained in the incident. The three workers were transported to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier and were undergoing evaluation as of this afternoon.
FKEC is investigating the incident to determine the cause. Based on preliminary information, FKEC said all appropriate safety procedures and protocols were followed.
“We appreciate the concern and support of our community and are grateful that no serious injuries have been reported,” FKEC said.
FKEC said it will share more information as it becomes available.
