Nearly 2,000 nominations were cast for the 11th Annual Best of Marathon. While the finalists will appear in an online ballot starting this Friday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m., we took a closer look at the ballots to reveal a wackier side of Marathon.
It’s a Saloon, not a Salon
Apparently Brass Monkey bartenders Sammy, Dirk and Rodney have secret talents, as evidenced by the Monkey’s 5 votes for “Best Salon.”
Define “bank”
The “Best Bank” in town may be Curry Hammock? “The BANK on the gulf side where you launch the kayak,” wrote one voter.
I voted for him!
“Ha ha ha ha ha that’s a good one,” was a response for “Best Elected Official.” Joey Gonzalez, Chuck Lindsey, Kristen Livengood and Jason Long were disqualified due to their inability to produce legitimate birth certificates.
Extra Credit
Batter Up! Cupcakery received at least one vote in every single category — a Best of Marathon first!
What an endorsement!
Best Clothing Store: “If you love dolphins, they have a shirt for you. There is something for everyone and at reasonable prices, which makes it nice when you are on a budget for your vacation,” was one response for “Best Clothing Store.”
We are calling DCF
Irish Kevin’s, Miami, the ocean, and Jason Koler’s house round out the top spots to take the kids.
He always wins
Dr. Mike Dunn has won “Best Vet” for 10 years running and this year he earned a nod as “Best Place to Take a Date.” Hello Catherine.
What year is it?
Marathon loves its bagels. So much so that the Marathon Bagel Co. almost got to defend its crown as “Best New Business.” They won in 2017 and 2018.
