Another wall in Marathon is a freshly-painted sub-sea masterpiece, created by a prolific mentor-mentee pair in the Middle Keys. Referred by world-renowned artist Wyland to create a new mural on the side of local-favorite eatery the Wooden Spoon, Marathon High School art teacher Shannon Wiley has been hard at work on his newest piece. And on Oct. 10, his mentor paid a visit to his newest work, adding a turtle of his own to the aquascape. ‘As Wyland has been getting less involved in the big murals, he’s been teaching me the ropes,’ Wiley told the Weekly. ‘I’m learning lots of the tricks of the trade. From the times we spent painting here in the Keys and down in Cuba, it really is a blessing.’ Photos contributed
