Local law enforcement, military and community partners will host the annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at four locations: Key Largo Community Park, Islamorada’s Founders Park, the Sheriff’s Office Aviation Hangar at the Marathon International Airport and Truman Waterfront Park in Key West.

Each family-friendly event will feature food, refreshments and an opportunity to meet neighbors, members of local law enforcement agencies and firefighters, as well as members of the military from a wide variety of divisions and special teams, and many others who are all involved in public safety in the Keys.

The goal of National Night Out is to bring the community together to discuss how to make neighborhoods cleaner, safer and more secure. Community members can learn how to heighten their crime-prevention awareness. Each event — depending on the area — will feature displays of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office elite units such as the dive team, SWAT and crime scene investigation.

Also attending will be the U.S. Coast Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Highway Patrol, Monroe County Fire Rescue, Monroe County schools, business chambers and others. Participants can view vehicles and equipment used by many of the agencies and pick up valuable information and personal safety paraphernalia.
