To anyone who spends their days at the golf club, the college or the hospital, this one’s for you.
Crews are installing a new traffic light at the north end of College Road, where it intersects with U.S. 1 across from Beach Weekend Marina. No more waiting impatiently to turn left onto U.S. 1 — or not waiting and taking your life into your hands with a death-defying lurch to head north.
The Florida Department of Transportation has started work on the new traffic signal, which should be finished and functioning this winter. The $1.5 million project includes installation of traffic signals, reconstructing a driveway, improving lighting, repaving and resurfacing and updating pavement markings.
“To minimize impacts to the community, work will be completed in phases,” states FDOT. “Temporary lane closures may occur weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and at nighttime Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian and vehicular detours will be established with clear signage.”
