Organizers have put together a combination Easter egg hunt and scavenger hunt on Sunday, April 12. One hundred numbered buoys will be placed around Stock Island, south of U.S.1 towards the entrance of Boyd’s Campground on 4th Avenue. The eggs will be on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We’re calling them Easter Egg Bunny Buoys,” said David Sloan, who is organizing the hunt with Jill and Sean Snodgrass. “We started planning it on April 10, but it’s coming together really fast.”
Instead of collecting the eggs, children are encouraged to photograph them and mark the numbers down on a bingo-like scorecard, then share them to the I Love Stock Island page on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #StockIslandEaster or #ILoveStockIsland.
There’s prizes, too. Participants are encouraged to download the bingo card on the Facebook page and, when finished, hunting, post the card. Five random winners will receive an Easter basket full of treats delivered to their home in Stock Island or Key West.
This is a social distancing event. “Don’t congregate at any location. Please wait for the other party to leave before you step up to take your photo,” said Sloan. “The social distancing rules apply, so stay 6 feet apart.”
Here are the rules:
- Don’t take or move any of the Easter Egg Bunny Buoys. Take a picture but leave them in place so others can play.
- Please bike or ride only with those in your quarantine family.
- Don’t congregate. Stay 6 feet away from others.
- Have fun — ”somebunny is watching!”
This social distancing event is being brought to the community by the I Love Stock Island Initiative whose mission is to help create a better place to live, work and play and the good people who bring the always fun and creative Cow Key Bridge Run.
