“Made on Morada Way,” a summer art exhibit featuring the work of Upper Keys artists, debuted on Aug. 1 with an opening reception at the Hale Gallery in Islamorada.
The exhibit features the work of more than 20 artists, some of whom have galleries within the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District, a six-block corridor on the Old Road between Green Turtle Inn (MM 81.2) and the Florida Keys Memorial (MM 81.8), known commonly as the Hurricane Monument.
Additional artists featured are those who exhibit during the monthly art walks, Third Thursdays.
“I like to feature shows with several artists,” said Kelly Hale, whose husband and artist Taylor Hale has a studio in Morada Way. “I reached out to Emma (Putney) to see if she would be interested in curating a show of Morada Way artists. Of course, she was.”
Putney, who works for Morada Way and is an artist, said, “I spent about two months curating this exhibit and am so pleased to have more than 20 artists participating with nearly 70 unique works of art.”
Works are from artists including John David Hawver, Maria Wagner, Taylor Hale, Jessica Ann, Lisa Lee, Diana McGuirk-Hille and Putney under the name Emmanorthmich.
A variety of media are included in the show, from kiln-formed glass, oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas, ceramics, seashells and porcelain.
The exhibit is a fundraiser for Morada Way, a not-for-profit organization founded in 2011, which also produces the monthly Third Thursday Art Walk. Proceeds of sales will be shared by the featured artists and the not-for-profit. Prices range from a couple hundred dollars to close to $10,000.
The Hale Gallery is donating its customary proceeds from hosting art shows. The fine arts gallery is located within Ocean Sotheby’s International Realty office across the highway from the district at MM 81.8 bayside.
The exhibit is on display through Friday, Sept. 25 and can be viewed weekdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Private appointments can be scheduled by calling 305-204-1216.
