The Islamorada Charter Boat Association presents the 29th annual Keys Kids Fishing Derby on Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Lorelei in Islamorada.
The derby is for anglers ages 10 and under. There is no charge to enter but anglers must be Monroe County residents. There are three fishing divisions: shoreline, backcountry and offshore. Awards will be made for three age groups: 4 and under, 5 to 7 and 8 to 10. There are lots of prizes with winners in all divisions. The first 100 registered anglers are guaranteed ditty bags.
Registration is available at Tackle Center of Islamorada, at the Lorelei, or at www.islamoradacharterboatassociation.com.
Shoreline fishing will be allowed at the Lorelei with waters chummed, and bait provided, by Tackle Center of Islamorada. There will be plenty of folks on hand to help bait hooks, tie lines etc. Those with fishing rods are asked to bring them. Fish Florida will be supplying a limited number of rods this year.
Ditty bags and free donuts thanks to Lorelei will be available any time after 7 a.m. Lines are in at 9 a.m. and weigh-in closes promptly at 1 p.m. Hot dogs and drinks will be supplied compliments of Lorelei. There will be a casting contest starting at 11 a.m. Mote Marine, Marine Lab, FWC and others will be on the property during the day.
