The Florida Keys Children’s Shelter recently received $2,000 worth of new sports equipment from the Florida Keys Bull Sharks, made possible through a grant from the Ocean Reef Community Foundation.

Sam Steele, president and founder of the Florida Keys Bull Sharks, personally delivered the equipment to the shelter. The donation will provide the young people served by the shelter with new opportunities to stay active, build confidence and experience the teamwork and connection that sports can provide.

“Many children who come to the shelter are already involved in athletics or have dreams of becoming athletes,” said Ben Kemmer, president and CEO of the shelter. “This generous donation will help provide them with the equipment and encouragement they need to pursue those goals.”

The Florida Keys Bull Sharks is a registered nonprofit youth sports organization based in the Keys. The organization operates competitive travel baseball teams, including 7U, 8U and 9U divisions, while working to remove financial barriers that may prevent local children from participating in athletics.

The Florida Keys Children’s Shelter thanked Steele and the Florida Keys Bull Sharks, as well as the Ocean Reef Community Foundation for providing the funding to the Bull Sharks that made this donation possible.
