Islamorada’s Square Grouper came out a big winner last year, taking the Best Lunch and Best Overall Restaurant. The restaurant’s Michael Roe won Best Bartender.
Sixty-five fancy plaques – and bragging rights – await the winners of this year’s Best of Upper Keys. An awards ceremony Nov. 11 at Whale Harbor Restaurants & Marina will crown the upper island chain’s best in town. The event will not only bring roars for the winners and laughs during special skits, but it’ll also raise vital funding for the Florida Keys Children’s Shelter, which supports at-risk and runaway youth. The anticipation and excitement is building, as evidenced by the many social media posts and advertisements from area businesses and people seeking support. Here’s a look back at some of the winners from last year’s Best of Upper Keys:

Best Fish Sandwich went to Wahoo’s in 2022. Audra Wallace, of Tolley & Hill PLLC, holds the plaque for Best Accountant/CPA.Sandbar Books and owner Becky Washam made a splash in 2022, coming away with Best New Business. Best Overall Business went to Pilates in Paradise, located in Tavernier. Owner Christi Allen Franchini holds the plaque. Ocean Sotheby’s International Realty won Best Real Estate Office. Pierre-Marc Bellion, real estate agent, accepted the award.Key Largo-based MarrVelous Pet Rescue came away with Best Nonprofit Organization in 2022. Suzi Youngberg and Joy Martin, pictured, as well as staff stay busy finding homes for cute adoptable pets.
