Artist Susanne D’Antonio unveils ‘Reverie,’ one of several freshly-painted Key deer statues, at the Big Pine Key ‘triangle’ on Sept. 22. Painted by local artists, the 13 deer statues are to be placed throughout the Lower Keys by Save Our Key Deer to remind motorists to be vigilant when passing through the home of the endangered species. The gathering of Keys elected officials, dignitaries, first responders and Save Our Key Deer volunteers was one of five unveiling events. ‘Reverie’ was commissioned by Andi Oles in honor of her brother, former MCSO officer David Cormier, who was tragically killed in the line of duty in 1989 at the age of 31.
