One of the Florida Keys two main thoroughfares was closed for a majority of the day, following a fatal crash on the Miami-Dade County side of Card Sound Road early Thursday morning.

Two people were killed in the crash and one was transported to the hospital with injuries, per a report by the Miami Herald. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said they transported one adult trauma alert patient via air rescue to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson South Hospital in Miami.

Card Sound Road was closed to the Monroe County line, until just after 3:30 p.m., when the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office announced both lanes were reopened to traffic. A two-lane highway, Card Sound Road is an alternate route to the 18-Mile Stretch that connects the island chain to Florida City.

On the Stretch, motorists experienced a bit more congestion and delays with Card Sound Road closed for much of the day.
