The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County (DOH-Monroe) will now operate under the leadership of Dr. Mark Roby, who has been appointed interim health officer. He succeeds Dr. Carla Fry, who has transitioned into the health officer role for the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County.
“I am honored to fill Dr. Fry’s vacancy and serve as interim health officer for DOH-Monroe,” Roby said. “It’s important for our agency to continue the great work we do every day to keep the residents and visitors of the Florida Keys healthy and safe.”
Roby began his nursing career more than 25 years ago as a cardiac telemetry nurse after earning a bachelor of science in nursing from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He also holds a bachelor of science in psychology from Virginia Tech, an MBA in human resource management from the University of Phoenix, an MSN in nursing education from the University of South Florida, and a doctor of nursing practice from Capella University.
Before joining DOH-Monroe in January 2023 as director of nursing, Dr. Roby served as the Dean of Sciences and Nursing at the College of the Florida Keys.
