A Hialeah man was arrested by Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation for his involvement in a reported hit-and-run boating accident at Robbie’s Marina in Islamorada on April 24.

FWC said Officer Daniel Marshal received a call from dispatch regarding a hit-and-run boating accident. The witness, identified as the victim, managed to get the registration numbers from the fleeing vessel along with some cell phone video. After conducting the boating accident investigation at Robbie’s Marina, Marshal searched the area oceanside between Bud N’ Mary’s Marina and Tavernier Creek. Marshal ended his water patrol without finding the striking vessel.

On his way home at the end of his shift, FWC said Marshal stopped to assist the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) with a vehicle accident at MM 93 in the northbound lane. While on scene with the traffic accident, Marshal saw a vessel on a trailer heading north matching the description of the striking vessel he had been looking for earlier that day.

Marshal followed the vessel in tow and found the vessel to have a faulty brake light. After running the trailer registration, Marshal found that the trailer tag was also expired. Marshal conducted a vehicle stop at MM 99 and approached the vehicle to tell the driver why he stopped him. FWC said Marshal noticed damage to the vessel consistent with the accident at Robbie’s Marina.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Ivan Alvarez Cachan, 38, of Hialeah, was arrested and taken to the Plantation Key Jail.
