In pictures: 5K & concert party salute first military and responders at Hawks Cay

U.S. Rep. Brian Mast joins the Coast Guard Color Guard at the Heroes Salute tribute and party.

On the weekend before the anniversary of 9/11, Hawks Cay Resort put on a celebration to honor those who continue a tradition of selfless service in our local community.

Their Heroes Salute started off with a 5K race in sweltering conditions on Saturday morning, followed by a parking lot Touch-a-Truck event that let kids take a seat in a few of the coolest rides in town.

An evening celebration on the Oasis Cay lawn featuring the Gabriel Key Band, a Color Guard presentation, fireworks and a flyover gave a more formal acknowledgement to the heroes who protect our country and island chain.
