Hospitals say they are prepared for pediatric patients

Given Zane Wampler’s situation, the Keys Weekly reached out to local hospitals to ask about the type of pediatric care it can deliver to Keys patients.

• Baptist Health South Florida: “Mariners Hospital and Fishermen’s Community Hospital have the emergency medical staff and equipment necessary to care for all ages. Pediatric patients, who require inpatient care, are transferred to a hospital on the mainland.”

• Lower Keys Medical Center: “Lower Keys Medical Center has pediatric nurses on staff and pediatricians on the medical staff. We would be able to care for a pediatric COVID patient with acute care needs. The hospital does not have a pediatric ICU. If a pediatric patient required that level of care, he or she would be stabilized and transferred to a children’s hospital.”
