The Miami Dolphins may have left the field at halftime at Hard Rock Stadium on Aug. 28, but another school of Dolphins was there to take their place.
The Marathon High School cheer team combined with two other squads to replace the Dolphins’ pro team, providing the mid-game entertainment for a preseason matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Escorted to field level after weeks of practice, a formal rehearsal and a summer clinic with the pro squad, the 18-member team took in the ultimate Friday Night Lights.
“It showed me that there are awesome opportunities out there that I never realized I’d have the chance to do, especially with our school being so small,” said freshman Clara Bartnik. Classmate Hannah Hutchinson added, “The best part was the feeling of getting to run out on the field.”
“Getting to meet and interact with the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders was unforgettable,” said senior captain Allison Helms. “The overall experience was extremely fun and beneficial to our team bonding, while also giving us a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Fellow captain Lillian Wiley agreed.
“As someone who has spent years cheering for a school that can be defined as tiny, performing on an NFL stage in front of a much larger audience felt like our cheer team was seen more than ever before.”
