At last, local school officials and other Monroe County dignitaries gathered together with students and faculty to celebrate the ribbon-cutting and official opening of the all-new Stanley Switlik Elementary School on Sept. 21. Complete with addresses from past and present members of the Monroe County School District such as Superintendent Theresa Axford and former Principal Brett Unke, the event also placed a spotlight on vocal, spoken and musical performances from Switlik students and faculty. As fifth grader Ariella Dworniczak proudly told the crowd, “Stanley Switlik has helped me and other students socially, the community supports it, and the school has great education. Stanley Switlik is a great school for kids.” Completion of the new facility after breaking ground in 2018 was certainly a cause for celebration. Unke excitedly asked the crowd, “Did our dream come true?” The deafening answer from adults and children alike was, “Yes!”
