Like many businesses that found ways to adapt to the new normal, a Key West caterer has launched a Tuesday supper club, delivering home-cooked meals to clients who order that week’s multi-course dinner through her Facebook page.
Chef Jennifer Cornell, owner of Small Chef at Large, loads up her catering van each Tuesday evening and makes her rounds through Key West, greeting repeat customers from behind her mask and gloves.
“During this stay-at-home period, I have enjoyed Jennifer’s cooking on several occasions,”
Greg Dunbar posted following a dinner delivery a few months ago. “Each item was first-rate, well-prepared and damn good.”
Dunbar said Cornell’s beef Wellington was “outstanding, and with enough left over for another meal.”
Each Tuesday Supper Club meal is $27. The Sept. 15 menu included: bacon-mushroom-stuffed pork loin, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, honey garlic butter roasted carrots, plus a salad and dessert.
A la carte items are also always available for Tuesday night delivery: chicken pot pies for $18, shepherd’s pie for $22 and a quart of soup for $12.
Cornell said if she gets enough people on her client list, she[‘ll expand the Supper Club to evenings other than Tuesdays.
“Like everyone else, I had to find a way to adapt, without our usual special events, weddings and other occasions that require catering,” Cornell said.
