Local high school students are getting a quick civics lesson on the importance of voting.Supervisor of Elections Sherri Hodies is making the rounds this spring, speaking at high schools, where her staff registers any 18-year-olds to vote and pre-registers 16- and 17-year-olds.Hodies spoke at Somerset Island Prep charter high school on May 11 and was at the Basilica High School on May 15. She outlines Florida’s primary system and encourages students to get involved in the election process by researching candidates, attending debates and asking questions.“I am so excited to see how you guys connect with candidates with questions and in ways that older generations wouldn’t even think of,” Hodies said.More information is at votemonroeflkeys.gov.
