The Domestic Abuse Shelter (DAS) has announced the appointment of Jackie Curl as its new CEO, effective Sept. 9. Curl succeeds Sherrie Schwab, who is retiring after anchoring the organization’s mission and community advocacy since March 2017.
“We are incredibly grateful to Sherrie Schwab for her profound dedication, compassion and leadership over the last nine years,” said Ashley Arrabal, board chair at DAS. “As we enter this new chapter, we are thrilled to welcome Jackie Curl. Her vision and expertise will build upon our strong foundation to expand our reach and deepen our impact for survivors.”
Curl brings more than 26 years of experience in nursing, health care, public service and nonprofit leadership to DAS. Most recently, she was program manager at the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County, overseeing services across multiple locations and working with community partners to meet the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations.
A longtime advocate for community-based services, Curl has also held leadership roles in the nonprofit sector, with experience in organizational development, fundraising, strategic planning, emergency preparedness and community engagement. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

I look forward to working alongside our staff, board, community partners and supporters to ensure survivors throughout Monroe County have access to the safety, resources and services they need. I am excited about the opportunity to strengthen our partnerships, expand our community outreach, and help position DAS for a strong and sustainable future.”
