The next talk in the 35th annual lecture series, “A Delicate Balance of Nature,” will highlight how outdoor learning can influence ocean conservation.
Hosted by the Friends of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park, the series’ eighth lecture will take place Monday, Aug. 24 at Pennekamp State Park.
The talk “Outdoor Education’s Impact on Ocean Conservation” will be given by Sarah Egner, senior vice president at MarineLab in Key Largo. Having begun its educational initiative in Key Largo in 1985, MarineLab has gathered stories, data and teacher insight on how students’ experiences out of the classroom have changed their future paths to ones that directly affect our environment.
Visitors can learn more on how outdoor education affects the oceans’ future at the visitor center and aquarium building inside the park, located at 102601 Overseas Highway, Oceanside. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a pre-lecture reception provided by the park’s friends group; and the lecture begins at 7:30 p.m.
Attendees may bring a cushion for added seating comfort. A sweater or light jacket may be desired. The park asks that attendees not wear fragrances or other scented products.
