The 34th annual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta challenges teams to build homemade boats with minimal materials, including duct tape, and navigate a course in Key West Harbor. CONTRIBUTED

Minimal construction and marginal seaworthiness should produce maximum hilarity Sunday, May 25, during the 34th annual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta. Only boats made of thin plywood, duct tape and a pound of fasteners are allowed in the Memorial Day Weekend regatta.

Prizes are awarded for Fastest Boats, Most Creative Designs, Best Costumes, Best Paint Jobs, Sportsmanship Awards and that dreaded category – Sinker Awards.

Minimal Regatta kits are available at Manley deBoer Lumber in Key West.

All entries receive two Minimal Regatta T-shirts; those who register before May 19 get two extra team T-shirts.

More information is available at 305-292-9520, at Schooner Wharf or at schoonerwharf.com.
