A Harry Harris resident is continuing to search for her new German shepherd service dog that recently went missing from the home.
The incident happened on Aug. 9 when Michele Zofchak returned to her home, located inside the Tavernier community, from a brief walk to find her 2-year-old dog, Ana, wasn’t there.
“What was weird was not only was she not in the house but my door was also shut,” she said. “Then there was a treat she had by the door and she spit it out. I was kind of in shock because I knew she could open a door, but I didn’t think about it as far as (her) leaving.”
Zofchak called Ana’s trainer, Dr. Clifford Glade, who brought his two dogs to assist in the search. In the ensuing days, Zofchak went to each doorstep in the Harry Harris community to see if anybody saw or heard anything. Posters have also been nailed to utility poles with information on Ana.
There were a couple possible sightings of Ana. Zofchak said there was another German shepherd on a trail cam that was roaming the neighborhood, but it wasn’t Ana.
“I believe that she’s been stolen. The night before, we had a whole bunch of cars broken into. She’s an 82-pound, gorgeous shepherd. She’s literally just vanished,” she said.
