A 17-year-old girl is facing prosecution as an adult after police said she stabbed a 19-year-old woman at a public housing complex in Bahama Village on Thursday.

Key West Police said the victim, who was identified as Trecia Whetstone, was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami after officers found her with multiple stab wounds to her stomach and shoulder.

On Friday afternoon, Whetstone was stable and listed in good condition, Chief Assistant Monroe County State Attorney Joseph Mansfield told the Keys Weekly.

Detectives found video of “the physical confrontation and stabbing” that shows the 17-year-old  was the “aggressor,” according to police spokeswoman Alyson Crean, who didn’t name the juvenile suspect in a press release.

“The female juvenile will be charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of cocaine,” Crean said.

The Monroe County State Attorney’s Office plans to transfer the case from juvenile court to adult court “due to the seriousness of the charges,” Crean said.

At about 4:20 p.m. Dec. 21, police were called to a report of a stabbing at the Robert Gabriel Apartments, a property run by the Key West Public Housing Authority.

Officers arrived and found Whetstone holding her stomach. Suffering from multiple stab wounds, police said she identified her attacker.

Police tracked down two 17-year-old female juveniles fleeing from the scene and detained both.

One of the girls had a 3-inch fixed blade knife with what appeared to be blood on the blade and handle, and a baggie that contained white powder that tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl, Crean said.

Both girls were taken to the Key West police station. Once their parents arrived at the station, the girls were interviewed.

The other 17 year-old girl who was found with the suspect was later released to her parents.

This story will be updated as new information becomes available.
