POWERBOATS ROAR THROUGH KEY WEST HARBOR

The Key West World Championship powerboat races, presented by Race World Offshore, started Nov. 10 at Truman Waterfront and Key West Harbor.

The screaming boats shot fans of white water into the air while rounding the turns, followed closely by helicopters hovering close for safety.

The first races of the week saw one boat flip over due to Wednesday’s wind and choppy water, but both racers looked to be uninjured while sitting atop their capsized boat. Additional race days are Friday and Sunday, Nov. 12 and 14. A boat parade and street party will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday on Duval Street. More information is at raceworldoffshore.com.
