TRUNKS FULL OF TREATS FOR STUDENTS AT BASILICA SCHOOL IN KEY WEST

After the grownups had their costumed fun throughout Fantasy Fest week, it was the kids’ turn on Halloween.

While the New Town neighborhood surrounding Staples Avenue teemed with monsters, Barbies, pirates and princesses, the Basilica School of St. Mary Star of the Sea got a head start on the sugar rush at its annual Trunk or Treat event the morning of Oct. 31 in the school’s parking lot.

Costumed parents turned the trunks of their cars into miniature themed booths, handing out candy and taking photos.

"Local news is crucial," she says. "It informs and connects a community. It prompts conversation. It gets people involved, holds people accountable. The Keys Weekly takes its responsibility seriously. Our owners are raising families in Key West & Marathon. Our writers live in the communities we cover - Key West, Marathon & the Upper Keys. We respect our readers. We question our leaders. We believe in the Florida Keys community. And we like to have a good time."
