TWO MICRO EVENTS LEAD UP TO VIRTUAL FUNDRAISER FOR DISCOVERY CENTER

The Florida Keys History and Discovery Foundation is planning for the fourth annual signature event in a reinvented fashion. While it won’t be A Night at the Museum, it will remain for the museum. The all-virtual fundraiser features two micro-events leading up to the main event, A Night for the Museum: Together From Home, on Nov. 14, 2020, presented by Maryann & Jim Bokor.

The first micro-fundraiser is Islamorada Brewery & Distillery Cocktail Class: Spirits from Still to Sip, on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m., when Larisa Baste talks spirit-making and shares how to craft three specialty cocktails. Advance registration is required by Oct. 13 via www.keysdiscovery.com/upcoming-events. Kits are available for a donation of $60 each.

The second micro-fundraiser is Wine Tasting with Sommelier Tom Smith, on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature wines from six worldly regions as well as select charcuterie. Limited quantities available and advance registration is required by Thursday, Oct. 29 via www.keysdiscovery.com/upcoming-events. Kits are available for a donation of $75 each.

For the main event, A Night for the Museum: Together From Home, a virtual event will engage a broad audience through unlimited free participation. Guests can celebrate the Keys History & Discovery Center from the comfort of home and enjoy a program featuring special guest appearances and a live virtual auction.

Guests can also support the foundation through the purchase of upgraded tickets, which include a four-course gourmet meal, specialty cocktail, wine, and floral centerpiece (local pick-up only). Must be reserved no later than Friday, Nov. 6.

“While the museum grapples with pandemic-related reductions of once reliable revenue streams from admissions, memberships, program fees and retail sales,” said executive director Jill Miranda Baker. “This annual fundraiser, which last year raised nearly one-quarter of our operating budget, takes on added significance.” More information is at www.keysdiscovery.com or 305-922-2237.
