UPPER KEYS WEEKLY’S SPORTS STANDOUT

The Upper Keys Weekly is proud to partner with the Coral Shores’ Athletic Department to highlight this week’s “Canes Sports Standout.” Recipients are chosen on qualifications of academic excellence, academic standing and community involvement. We thank our future leaders and the CSHS athletic department for allowing us to share a little “Hurricane Pride.”

ALEX STERNBERG

A Canes tennis player since his freshman year, Sternberg remembers his sophomore year when he managed to come back from a heavy deficit to beat his opponent in a tiebreaker. Sternberg said playing sports helped him develop a strong mindset and get through difficult times. He owes his success to his coach, Ms. Browning, and his family. He serves as chairman of the Islamorada Youth Council and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. He will be attending the University of Miami to study microbiology and immunology, as he aspires to be a doctor one day. While sports is a great after-school activity, Sternberg says, “Don’t let your grades slip because it will affect how you do in sports. I want to thank everyone who helped me to get to where I am today,” he said. “Living in the Keys really shaped me into who I am, and it was one of the best experiences in my life.”
