Where do they go? State park talk highlights the journey of songbirds

A Miami expert will discuss the role southeast Florida plays in songbird migration in a talk on Monday, June 22 at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.

Steffanie Munguia, avian conservation programs manager for Zoo Miami, will present  “Mighty Migrations: Southeast Florida’s Role in the Incredible Journey of Songbirds.” Munguia will discuss bird migration along the Atlantic Flyway, using the Cape Florida Banding Station’s 23 years of data.


The Friends of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park will present the talk, part of the 35th annual lecture series, “A Delicate Balance of Nature.” 

The Pennekamp park is located at 102601 Overseas Highway, oceanside. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a reception provided by the Friends of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, and the lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. Visitors may bring a cushion for added seating comfort. Temperatures in the auditorium vary and a sweater or light jacket may be desired. Organizers ask that visitors accommodate those who are chemically sensitive by not wearing fragrances and other scented products.
