CHANGE: WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD?

I had to beg my husband to take a drive with me. Who would have thought I would have to beg?

All I wanted was a nice quiet beach day and a yummy lunch in a new setting. We love the Keys, don’t get me wrong, but once in a while you need to change it up. Something needs to get changed so your energy can shift, you can clear your head, and have some fun. Why was this so difficult to understand?

Change … what do you think of when you hear that word? I highly doubt any of us asked for all the changes we have had this year. Along with that change has been personal and financial struggle, mental health challenges and more.

“Some changes look negative on the surface, but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge,” said Eckhart Tolle.

It was a rough conversation the night before, but I was confidently insistent. He could sleep in the car, and we would be back by late afternoon. It was a perfect plan.

To say our beach day worked out splendidly (fancy word, huh?) is an understatement. Once we arrived and parked our butts in our chairs on the sand, it was peaceful, relaxing and fun. The sunrise was gorgeous and we were able to decompress. My husband even admitted it was the right thing to do, and he would do it again. Score one for Melinda! Hopefully next time, I won’t have to beg.

I realize not everyone can jot up to the beach for the day, so here are some fun local activities that can help change your energy and shift your perspective on life.  Heck, you may even meet a new friend or learn something.

  • Bohemian Arts Club located at Village Square at the Trading Post (FB) in Islamorada, will likely be starting classes very soon. Liz Huddleston (Miss Monroe and Wild Lily) and Sue Wright (Boo Kee Sue Botanics).
  • Susi Trottnow – KeySeaArt offers sea glass art classes.
  • Lauren Ferrante – Island Flow Yoga.
  • Brittany Parker – Monthly Painting Classes at Bakers Cay.
  • Susan Jankowski – Recently opened Limelight Studio in Islamorada and offers painting classes.

Connect with these positive change makers on Facebook. They offer classes now or are in the process of getting started.

Life is meant to be lived. We can all get stuck in a rut. I know, my husband and I did. Easy to stay home, keep our heads down and keep working. But energetically we all need a break. We need fresh air, sunshine, people, different food, a new environment and new skills that stimulate our brains and help us grow. When you bring change into your life, you are opening the passages for more to arrive.

You are allowing great things to happen. What can you do today to change?
