Charlotte Twine named senior staff writer at Keys Weekly

Charlotte Twine

Charlotte Twine has joined Keys Weekly Newspapers as the senior staff writer, and she will help the county’s largest media company expand its coverage from Key West to Key Largo. The 50-year-old New Jersey native moved to Florida seven years ago. Despite starting out as a humble ice cream scooper, she fell deeper in love each year with the community and surrounding beauty.

Twine graduated from Vermont’s Marlboro College with a bachelor’s degree in theater in 1994, then enjoyed a publishing career for the better part of 20 years, working as a copy editor for magazines such as Glamour, Us Weekly and Travel + Leisure. Upon hightailing it to the Keys with her husband Roberto and their two elderly Pomeranians, she eventually found work as a reporter at the Free Press, then as a library technician at Monroe County Public Library. But she missed the publishing life, so she asked Upper Keys editor Jim McCarthy if he needed a part-time writer. The rest is history. She is excited to write stories about the passions of Keys locals.

“We’re so pleased to have Charlotte on board due to her love for writing, her creativity and her ability to connect with people,” said publisher Jason Koler. “She knows the importance of covering what makes the Florida Keys community tick and developing professional relationships.”

Already boasting the largest newspaper circulation in the Florida Keys, The Keys Weekly is the only locally-owned and -operated publishing company in South Florida – and fastest growing. Within the last three years, the Keys Weekly media company has nearly doubled its staff and opened a third office. The company produces three weekly community newspapers, owns the premier travel and news website in the Florida Keys and publishes a myriad of specialty magazines.
