Three of the Middle Keys’ most magnificent manes are going whisker-to-whisker for Best Beard supremacy in the 2026 Best of Marathon Awards. In a showdown some are calling “comparable to Brady vs. Manning” or “Tyson vs. Holyfield, but with less biting,” the votes are going to come down to the wire. So, we broke out the tape measure, asked the questions the community REALLY wants to know and gave each contender a chance to trash-talk his way to the belt (words, not razors). TYLER BLANTON
- When I was 8.
- Long enough … but you have to measure from the bottom, never on the top.
- It’s the wingspan of a majestic bald eagle.
- About as far from welterweight as you can get … and so is the beard.
- It’s perfect when I roll out of bed.
- It costs just as much as my kid’s travel ball expenses.

- Whenever I jump in the pool.
- A chicken wing and half a meatball sub from Driftwood. I found my kid’s matchbox car in there the other day too. That was a pleasant surprise – he was pretty happy about that.

CHRISTIAN SOSA
- I didn’t even remember I had a chin. It’s been so long.
- 5.5 inches. I don’t need to stretch it. Greatness doesn’t need assistance.
- 8 inches – enough to have its own evacuation zone during hurricane season.
- Mail is currently being forwarded.
- About 10 minutes of actual maintenance and another 20 minutes of standing in the mirror admiring the results.
- I stopped keeping receipts. Some things are better left between a man, his beard and his accountant.
- Two. If it’s good enough for my wife’s hair, it’s good enough for my beard.
- Regularly. This is a championship-caliber beard, not a wildlife habitat.
- The shattered confidence of another Best Beard contestant.
- Women admire it. Men study it.
- This hasn’t started yet, but I don’t shun my older years when this starts.

- I’ve had the beard since I was 9.
- 8 real inches, not the 8 inches I have my wife believing.

- Heavyweight beard? I can think of other things of mine that are heavier.
- I wake up looking majestic. 30 seconds.
- Whatever expensive shampoo I steal from my wife.
