Hi friends! Reef the fox here with this week’s “Reef’s Report.”
How about that rain last weekend? Mom kept me inside, because this foxy boy loves playing in the rain and then rolling on her bed.
I have received quite a few messages asking what we do in the event of a tropical storm or hurricane.
As required by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) mom has a disaster plan on file, which includes the location we would evacuate to, if necessary, along with emergency contacts, our veterinarian contact and all supplies we have on hand for a disaster.
During a tropical storm, mom monitors wind speed and acts accordingly. Typically, nothing needs to happen during a tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane.
If a Category 2 or higher hurricane were to head our way, mom would prepare by bringing us inside initially and monitor the storm track/strength, and based on that, make the decision whether to evacuate.
During this time of year, mom relies heavily on receiving items from our hurricane wishlist as well as any added monetary donations people are generous enough to give. This is because if any of our enclosures were to be damaged during the storm, we would have to act quickly to get them repaired.
If you would like to send a monetary donation, our address is P.O. Box 1165 Tavernier, FL 33070 and our hurricane wishlist can be found on our website under “ways to donate” at pawsitivebeginnings.org.
Hope that helped answer some questions. Until next time, Reef, over and out!
