Our Place in Paradise, a nonprofit community art studio and gallery in Tavernier, is welcoming the new year with an art raffle and sale.
The space first opened its doors to the community in 2017. Billed as a “unique place for art in the Florida Keys,” the studio/gallery truly operates in both realms. Classes for beginners and workshops for experts create an open learning environment. Media vary from painting to glass to pottery. There are even art summer camps for kids, and community events such as the opening of the Connections Project traveling mosaic mural. On top of that, the gallery showcases many local artists of all types and serves as their voice to the community.
While COVID-19 shutdowns kept the studio quieter than normal, studio owners Joanne Kolb and Liza Moore, stubborn optimists and community supporters, remain hopeful for what’s to come.
To kickstart a new year, artist-in-residence Kathleen Denis donated her original oil painting “Out and About” for raffle to raise funds for Our Place in Paradise. The whimsical piece depicts what could only be labeled a perfect, typical day in paradise, with palm trees, sunshine and scooter rides.
Raffle proceeds will help the nonprofit studio and gallery continue with their mission of supporting art, the community and the kids.
Raffle tickets are $15 each or four for $50. The drawing will occur on Jan. 29. Purchases can be made by calling 305-916-5828 or by stopping by the gallery in person.
