James Coleman opens annual Fantasy Fest exhibit - A colorful map of the world - Art

Amid the body painting and glitter is an enclave of fine art: The James Coleman Gallery on Duval Street. Coleman comes in annually for Fantasy Fest, and the gallery holds a three day exhibit, culminating in a private parade-viewing party on Saturday night.

“He’ll be here to meet and greet new and returning clients,” said Assistant Gallery Director Dustin Hoffman (yes, that’s his real name). “I just received 10 original paintings today for this weekend’s exhibit.”

A romantic impressionist, Coleman was the lead background artist for Disney for more than 20 years, working on iconic movies like “The Little Mermaid” and “Beauty and the Beast.” He works in acrylics primarily, but, said Hoffman, “He paints with everything.” Coleman will be painting in the gallery Thursday Oct. 25 through Saturday Oct. 27, from noon to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. daily. “It’s a great time to speak with the artist about a future piece that is only yours.”

“This is a seasonal highlight for the gallery, because in addition to our valued clients, newcomers from around the world come to Key West,” Hoffman said. “They may be in town for Fantasy Fest, but they leave town with not just a memory, but a beautiful piece of original art.” The James Coleman Gallery is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 pm. Drop by for a piece of art, and just maybe you’ll score an invite to their swanky Saturday night parade party.
