Four males, all from Marathon, were arrested on Oct. 26 following a Sheriff’s Office investigation into illegal firearms sales.
• Jorge Efren Gonzalez, 17, was charged with dealing in stolen property, selling a firearm with an altered/removed serial number, illegal open carry of weapons, and conspiracy.
• Mikele Rocafort Carciani, 19, was charged with conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
• Andrew Jonathan Pena, 22, was charged with conspiracy and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
• Martin Luther Kilbourne, 19, was charged with making threats to law enforcement, resisting arrest, and breaking law enforcement equipment.
The Sheriff’s Office received information regarding illegal firearms sales in Marathon. A purchase was set up involving detectives for two weapons totaling $1,200. Gonzalez, Carciani, and Pena arrived at the meeting location on Oct. 26 in a white Dodge Charger, MCSO officials said.
Gonzalez was in the front passenger seat with a 9mm Glock and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun in his lap, according to MCSO. A magazine containing 9mm bullets was found in Gonzalez’s pockets, as was a 6-inch knife.
An AR-style rifle and ammunition were also recovered from Pena’s residence.
Meanwhile, Kilbourne was one of three people inquiring about the above arrests who later arrived at the Sheriff’s Office Marathon Substation via the rear of the property. Two of the three subjects left when they were ordered to do so, but Kilbourne allegedly remained and told a detective to remove his badge and gun so Kilbourne could “beat his (expletive deleted).”
Kilbourne resisted arrest and broke a body-worn camera in the process of being taken into custody. He also threatened other Sheriff’s Office members, saying, “(Expletive deleted), I’ll tell them all — I’ll shoot them all,” while at the jail, an MCSO press release said.
The case is ongoing and more arrests and charges may be pending.
“Thank you to the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office who worked quickly to get these illegal weapons off our streets,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “I will not tolerate threats directed at my staff and those who make such threats will be arrested.”
