KEY WEST CITY CREWS SPRUCE UP BEACH

With the city of Key West now the owner of Higgs Beach and the surrounding park, crews have been working to spruce up the area, trimming trees, mowing grass, cleaning equipment and rehabbing the exercise platform. CONTRIBUTED

The city of Key West is wasting no time sprucing up Higgs Beach and the surrounding park, which it recently acquired from Monroe County. Crews from the city’s community services department last week rehabbed the exercise deck near the Edward B. Knight Pier, mowed lawns and cleaned amenities, while Urban Forestry workers started trimming trees.

“I want to acknowledge the hard work of our community services director Marcus Davila, who coordinated closely with the county to ensure a smooth transition,” Key West City Manager Brian L. Barroso told the city commissioners. “Our focus remains on maintaining continuity for park users while the city develops both a transition worklist and a long-term plan for the area.”
